It’s beginning to get a lot more festive around Calgary this week, as two new Holiday pop-up bars are set to launch today, just in time to start spreading the holiday cheer. This boozy holiday season trend will take place at Proof in Victoria Park as Miracle on 1st Street and Ricardos Hideaway on 17th Avenue as Sippin’ Santa, both with Christmas-themed, over-the-top holiday decor and cocktails. So what exactly can you expect when merrily planning your visit? Well, let’s make a list, check it twice and find out who’s naughty and nice.
Miracle on 1st Street will be alive with the Christmas Spirit (and cocktail spirits for that matter) beginning Monday, November 25 at Proof (1302 – 1st St SW, 403-246-2414) until Tuesday, December 24. With kitschy holiday decor, beautiful hand-crafted cocktails and nostalgic energy, this is definitely a place to meet up with a friend for your holiday visit. Miracle’s concept was born a few years ago in an East Village cocktail bar out of New York. Fast forward a couple years later, and Miracle has expanded it’s delicious concept to be a world-wide pop up, including right here in Calgary. One of the must try cocktails is the SanTaRex, which has a rye whiskey base served in a hilarious Santa hat dawning T-Rex glass.
Sippin’ Santa will be sleighin’ the Christmas scene at Ricardo’s Hideaway (1530 5th St SW, 587-349-2585) beginning Thursday, November 28 through till Tuesday, December 31. Another concept developed out of the New York cocktail scene, Sippin’ Santa is a festive tiki take on Christmas…think surfing Santa and palm trees instead of pine. Definitely a nice change up if you’re looking for a tropical “stay-cation” kinda feel for your holiday meetup. Some of the highlighted drinks on this year’s menu are the Kris Kringle Colada (dark Jamaican Rum, allspice, lime and pineapple juice and cream of coconut) and the Christmas Eve of Destruction (dark overproof Rum, herbal liqueur, nutmeg syrup, lime juice and angostura bitters).
