In responding to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the Allium has created this means for social
connectivity during a time of increasing social isolation.
For many people, life continues to shift towards the digital realm. While this has a potential to create enhanced feelings of solitude, it also provides an amazing opportunity for collaboration and connection. It is in this spirit of community that The Allium has partnered with Be Local in order to deliver these entertaining and educational events on the first Monday of every month!
Be Local is a project of the non-profit Momentum and grew out of the now retired REAP
program. As a network of community-focused businesses, Be Local strives towards a local
economy that is sustainable, resilient and works for everyone. All the businesses involved in the Be Local network are locally-owned, operated, and most importantly, community-focused.
Community-focused means the business has integrated social and environmental impacts and
prioritizes relationships with other local businesses and communities. The COVID pandemic has clearly demonstrated the importance of supporting a local economy in order to grow a strong and resilient city, and this is exactly what Be Local helps to achieve.
The Allium recently launched their new Bodega packaged food line through the on-line Be Local YYC Store (https://shop.belocal.org/). Other Be Local members partnering with The Allium for these events include Generous Solutions, Universal Access, BRND’D, and Claudia T. Photography. Donations from the event are being collected for Run For Little Ones (https://www.runforlittleones.org/).
The Allium is located at 211a 12 Ave SW, Calgary, AB and is now open for take-out and dine-in
dinner service from Tuesday to Saturday, 5:30pm – 9pm. While The Allium is usually a walk-in
restaurant, they are currently taking reservations for any party size during these unprecedented times.
