Vending Machine or Secret Entrance? Calgary’s Newest Izakaya by Chef Takeshi

Ajito is Calgary’s newest Japanese Izakaya-style restaurant, located at the back of Sho Sushi. They feature cocktails and other Japanese alcoholic beverages, with a highlight on seafood plates.

An Izakaya, is a Japanese bar for casual food and drinks. With cool vibes, delicious food, and a hidden Coca Cola entrance, this is going to be YYC’s hottest date night spot!

Chef Takeshi was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, and has a passion for creating authentic Japanese dishes. He’s the mastermind behind the Japanese street-style food at Dorinku in Edmonton, and previously was the head chef at Suika in Vancouver.

We tried a few of their dishes and they’re nothing like you’ve seen before! From sashimi, smoked tatakis, to stone bowl udons and rice bowls, every dish is unique but overflows with umami.

Chef Takeshi has outdone himself and plating here is on point! We’re so impressed with Ajito and the atmosphere, staff and food. Prices are also affordable and great for sharing!
